How long does it take BioGaia to work?

It’s hard to give a precise answer as every human and every gut microbiota is unique, however, normally you should notice the effects within a few days. While people who are healthy may not experience any differences, those taking L. reuteri Protectis because of a digestive system disturbance may notice an improvement in symptoms after 3-4 days. In some cases it may take longer if the person is, for example, taking a medication affecting the digestive system.

Why is BioGaia with ProTectis different from other probiotics?

BioGaia contains L. reuteri Protectis, a unique probiotic strain that naturally colonizes in the digestive tract. It’s been proven to help reduce and prevent episodes of crying in babies suffering from colic and other digestive discomforts. It’s effective and safe to use in infants from newborn and onwards to soothe most common tummy issues like colic, regurgitation, constipation and infectious diarrhea.

Can BioGaia’s products be stored at room temperature?

All BioGaia products should be stored at room temperature. Please note if the room temperature is above 25°C/77°F, we recommend storage in the fridge.

Is BioGaia peanut and nut free?

Yes, all BioGaia ProTectis Drops and Chewable Tablets are peanut and nut free.

How should I give my baby BioGaia ProTectis Drops?

We strongly recommend giving BioGaia ProTectis Drops by spoon.
Shake the bottle well for 10 seconds before each use. If considering alternative ways, please take the following information into account:

Directly into the baby’s mouth

  • Avoid contact with skin or saliva and the opening of the bottle

On the breast

  • Make sure that the drops do not “fall-off”
  • Avoid contact between the skin and the opening of the bottle/tube
  • When given on the breast there is a risk that the baby does not get the full dose.

On the pacifier

  • Make sure that the drops do not “fall-off”
  • Avoid contact between the pacifier and the opening of the bottle/tube
  • When given on the pacifier there is a risk that the baby does not get the full dose

Contact with skin or saliva may ruin the quality of the product, due to risk of contamination.
As the drops do not form instantly, it may be difficult to keep the mouth of the baby open long enough.

When given directly into the mouth, there is the risk that the baby does not get the full dose. If by accident the drops end up in the eye, chin or nose of the baby, it will not cause harm.

Do the drops change the taste of the food?

No, the drops don’t change the taste of food or drink.
